Go Green Bags

The Go Green Bag was born out of despair at the sight of plastic bags stuck in trees,

strangled and suffocated wildlife, blocked roadside drains and so many other sightings of plastic bags discarded where they are causing damage to the environment and hazards to both humans and wildlife.
Go Green Bags will not in themselves save the world, but they will go a long way to help. They are made of non-woven bonded polypropylene – ironically a plastic based fabric product. They will biodegrade gradually when exposed to ultra violet light and wind – that is, in use! The bag’s rigid base board is made from second use (PE) plastic – in other words, recycled once already. The bag is, of course, also recyclable. As a first step in the right direction Go Green Bags can provide a compromise – they are a re-usable shopping bag, robust enough to avoid the double bagging required by some other biodegradable bags; they are cheap to make from a plastic based fabric which thus supports the plastics industry; the bag’s rigid base board is made from second use (PE) plastic – in other words, recycled once already; they degrade slowly over time; they are washable and thus any health risk from food or chemical residues can be removed, before their next use.

Jutexpo Policy

Climate Care

Our jute bags are made from a naturally renewable plant resource. However, when we make and transport our jute bags, greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere – contributing to climate change.

To reduce the impact of our bags on climate change, Jutexpo Limited has teamed up with Climate Care to become climate neutral.

Together we have estimated the CO2 emissions from the bags' manufacture and transport. Jutexpo will offset these emissions by making contributions to Climate Care who provide a climate repairing service through out the world. These services include:

  • Forest restoration;
  • Energy efficiency;
  • Renewable energy projects.

These actions enable our jute bags to be climate neutral.

Climate Care is an organisation that ‘offsets' greenhouse gas emissions for companies and individuals, by running projects across the world. As well as cutting greenhouse gases, the projects help to improve people's standards of living and protect wildlife habitats.

The Government is going to increase the national landfill levy and is seriously considering a consumer tax on single use plastic bags. Here at JUTEXPO we believe in education, not just taxation. Making people aware of how pollution and the waste of our exhaustible resources will adversely effect our environment will guarantee a positive change in our daily habits.

Made in India under strict working conditions and transported to this country by ship to avoid air pollution, Jute bags are totally biodegradable using only natural materials and traditional skills to combat a distinctly modern, world pollution problem. Jute bags are extremely durable - one Jute bag will last longer than many thousands of plastic bags and unlike its plastic counterpart, when finally discarded a Jute bag will naturally decompose.

The Carrier Bag Shop

Environmental Policy

In an age where packaging is often shown to be a major cause of waste and pollution, Carrier Bag Shop has taken it upon itself to become an innovator in providing environmentally friendly packaging. When you buy packaging from us, you can rest assured in the knowledge that we try our best to work with the environment.

Our "Bags To Trees" campaign...

We make no bones about preferring paper packaging and bags over plastic bags. As well as the pollution caused in the extrusion of plastic film, it is a non bio-degradable substance. In sourcing the best quality paper products at the best prices however, we cannot guarantee that the paper is 100% recycled. As such we have set up our Bags to Trees initiative whereby the more paper bags we sell, the more money we will donate to selected tree foundations to help plant trees to replace the ones that have been used in the manufacture of the bags! We like to call it being environmentally friendly retrospectively. Look through our online shop and be sure to check out all products with the Tree Aid and Tree Council graphic next to them. For every £100 spent on these products, we will donate £1 to the Tree Council and Tree Aid.

The Materials Matter...
When you buy from Carrier Bag Shop, you can rest assured that the products you buy, to the best of our knowledge, do or are the following:

  • All paper products have a certain amount of recycled content. If not, then the virgin paper used comes from sustainable sources where at least one tree is planted for every tree chopped down.
  • All inks used on our paper bags are water based. We would insist the same on plastic but it just wouldn't print!
  • Glues and other chemicals are all environmentally friendly (i.e. starch based)

Spread the "Bags to Trees" message.
For all our customers ordering printed packaging, we also have a special logo as you can see on the right hand side. Carrier Bag Shop will add £5.00 to our charity pot for distribution to our charities. This offer is extended to plastic as well as paper bags. Thank you for supporting Carrier Bag Shop, Tree Aid and The Tree Council.

Supreme Creations (not mentioned above- this company supplies very large companies)

After speaking to somebody at Supreme Creations, they assured me that they have a ‘Fairtrade Certified Factory’ and have been audited by Tesco, Co-op, Boots etc. They claim to be carbon neutral and offer a range of faitrade and or organic cotton bags. They are however, a large corporation so it really depends how you feel about dealing with such a large firm as opposed to the smaller run businesses such as bags2keep.

Our motivation is simple.
The planet is subjected to too much Abuse and not enough Reuse.
Too much of almost every resource is wasted,
The concept of throw away is universally entrenched.
An enlightened few are now challenging the attitude of the many.They know
